Its easy for foreigners to go to another country, get stuff done and then rag on the home scene. Germans do it all the time - do one tube in London and then boast about "how easy it is", Brits going to do Le Metro in Paris and coming back with stories about "killin' paris subs bruv"....

All I am saying its easy to be a big fish in a small pond, re-invent yourself in HK, blah blah blah....because the competition is well....not that strong and many local writers have never had exposure to a mature/older graf scene. BUT...

...compared to when I lived in HK back in 2001-2002, the scene is getting stronger and better and theres more local graf out there and its a good standard. I am in town at the mo and liking what I am seeing out there on HK, KL and in the NT.

Sure, its not the same as a US/Euro version of a graf scene, and its more a walls scene over bombing, but mate...graf manifests itself in many different ways.

This is HK, diff culture, diff. pressures, diff. way of thinking. I use to think "the scene is shit", but realised it will take time for the scene to grow, For one, I am glad the locals are not just straight licking foreign ass anymore and actually doing their own ting! So us visitors should show some more respect and engage rather than large it up and separate ourselves as some kind of "higher graf beings".

All I can say is if the scene is to grow, the local writers have to remember its not just about money, commissions and local press fame (which tends to be the main focus once a HK writers gets any good) its about about keeping that illegal element alive and pushing your own styles, its about longevity so there will be a scene still in a few years time. Big up Redy who is still pushing her thing along after all these years. Anyway I feel like an old cunt saying all this shit...but I felt it needed to be said..will shut up now and get some zzzzzz.......

Ps...Internet graf is gay all over the world, not just in HK. Peeps in UK, Paris, US all putting their stuff on FlickR and Fotolog...so its the same all over. Graf has evolved and the internet (unfortunately) has become an integral part of it....

a few months ago there wasnt any problems ...
it only started becuause someone couldnt stand to see some busy-b tags . and i was told the only reason some of my tags got crossed was coz some drunks decided i was a toy. fair , , , but this is graffiti and ppl cant tell us what to do at the end of the day . . . so lets stop this shit and channel our energy to another post . share what we actually have to offer hong kong because the internet isnt going anywhere so why try to boycot it as if its a cool thing to do ppl / writers can still be unknown .
